Van Life – Adventure and Duties?

Is it possible to unite adventure and duties?

We love Van Life!
But Van Life is not as glamorous as you might think. It is not new adventures every minute of every day.
A lot of time is spend doing random daily routines like cooking, doing the dishes or just moving stuff around from sleep mode to camp mode or driving mode – and that is a lot more time than we actually use at home to do these things. Everything has to be done in a specific order. Cause it is not possible to make breakfast if you do not make the bed first. Or to be correct rearrange the bed back to function as a seat, so that you are able to stand in front of the hob and prepare the meal – not to mention the lack of seats when the food is ready – that is if the weather is not for eating outside. Neither is it wise, in a moment’s weakness, to decide not to do the dishes before driving to the next destination. The result will only be dirty dishes, forks, knives, spoons tumbling around in the cabin in every turn. I write this out of experience – it is very messy and not advisable – at all.
True! We have to do a big part of those things at home to, but at home we have the luxury of a dishwasher, a vacuum cleaner, a washing machine and we do not have to move all our stuff around on a daily basis. Even though we are so lucky to have all that help at home, it is not that we enjoy hanging out our wet clothes, or changing sheets or parring socks. But when we are in our van. Away. Out and about – these routines take up a lot of our time but it is totally okay. Somehow it is not something that has to be done in hurry but something we enjoy doing together. It is part of our day – the duties are part of our adventure, and it has truly changed the way I look at how we spend time together as a family, and how I see the world.
